LONDON (May 2018): Kevin Anderson, Richard Gasquet and Karen Khachanov are confirmed to participate in this year’s Aspall Tennis Classic at the prestigious Hurlingham Club, taking place between Tuesday 26th and Friday 29th June 2018. They are joined by tennis legends Greg Rusedski, Mark Philippoussis, Thomas Enqvist, Mikael Pernfors and Mansour Bahrami with more players still to be announced, as part of the ultimate warm up event to Wimbledon.
Combining timeless elegance and British tradition, Aspall Tennis Classic offers the perfect opportunity for guests to witness world class tennis and enjoy unparalleled hospitality. South African Kevin Anderson achieved his career-high ranking of World No. 8 on the 26th February 2018. He reached his first Grand Slam final at the 2017 US Open, losing to World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. Anderson ended 2017 on a high, winning the Mubadala World Tennis Championship and has continued his run of form in 2018 by winning his fourth ATP World Tour title in New York.
Currently ranked at World No. 29, Frenchman Richard Gasquet won his ATP debut event at the 2002 Monte-Carlo Masters aged 15, defeating Franco Squillari to become the youngest match winner since Tommy Ho. He has gone on to win a total of 14 ATP titles. He achieved a career high ranking of World No. 7 in July 2007 and his Grand Slam highlights include reaching the semi-finals of the 2007 and 2015 Wimbledon Championships, as well as the semi-finals of the 2013 US Open. He also won the mixed doubles Grand Slam title at the 2004 French Open, partnering with Tatiana Golovin.
Accompanying Anderson and Gasquet is Russian rising star Karen Khachanov, who has improved his year-end ranking in four straight seasons (2014-17). The 21 year-old claimed his first ATP title defeating Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the 2016 Chengdu Open. He added his second ATP title at the 2018 Open 13 in Marseille, with wins over Thomas Berdych and Lucas Pouille. He also reached his first ATP World Tour doubles final at the Miami Open with Andrey Rublev losing to the Bryan Brothers.
Other ATP players included in the line-up are World No. 5 Grigor Dimitrov, World No. 22 Hyeon Chung and World No. 18 Lucas Pouille.
Aspall Tennis Classic at Hurlingham is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy watching some of the sport’s legends compete in entertaining doubles matches.
Greg Rusedski reached a career high ATP ranking of World No.4. In 1997, Rusedski reached the singles final of the US Open and also won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. In addition to these achievements, Rusedski is possibly best known for, at one time, holding the record for the fastest serve ever recorded, at 149mph.
Australian player Mark Philippoussis reached the final of the US Open in 1998 and the Wimbledon final in 2003, where he was defeated by Roger Federer. He was a member of the winning Davis Cup team in both 1999 and 2003.
Thomas Enqvist, formerly ranked a career high ATP ranking of World No. 4, has won won 19 ATP Tour titles throughout his 15-year professional tennis career. One highlight of Thomas’ career came in 1999 when he reached the final of the Australian Open.
Mikael Pernfors reached the men’s singles final of Roland Garros in 1986, defeating Mats Wilander and home favourite Henri Leconte in successive rounds, losing only to then World No. 1 Ivan Lendl.
Iranian-born Mansour Bahrami featured in the Iranian Davis Cup team at the age of sixteen but political issues in Iran meant that it was some years after he burst onto the scene before he was able to forge a successful doubles career. His career highlight was reaching the French Open doubles final in 1989. Best known for his trick shots and on-court entertainment, crowd favourite Bahrami has featured at the Aspall Tennis Classic at every year since the event’s inauguration in 1994.
2018 will mark the 25th anniversary of the event, which, over the years, has become one of the world’s most star-studded tennis exhibitions, tying together premier hospitality with a stellar player line-up. During its 25-year history, some of the sport’s best players have competed at the event including Grand Slam champions Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and Marin Čilić, as well as Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Kei Nishikori. Aspall Tennis Classic also draws many celebrity spectators; in the past, attendees have included Eleanor Tomlinson, Emilia Fox, Sol Campbell and Romeo Beckham.
An IMG event, the Aspall Tennis Classic at Hurlingham takes place at the height of the tennis season, during the week prior to Wimbledon. Set in the tranquil 42-acre grounds of The Hurlingham Club, it is one of the most intimate tennis events in the social calendar, showcasing both the stars of today and all-time legends playing in a series of singles exhibition matches as they finalise their preparations ahead of Wimbledon.

About Aspall
Innovation and invention have been at the heart of Aspall ever since Clement Chevallier arrived at Aspall Hall in 1728 to set up his new cyder business. While upholding the same exacting standards set by Clement nearly 300 years ago, the business has continued to innovate and improve. Today, with its immense heritage, Aspall is recognised as a brand that values its past while enthusiastically embracing the future. Aspall cyder is still pressed, fermented, blended and bottled on site at Aspall Hall but by embracing new ideas and technologies it continues to produce the very British world-class cyders, juices and vinegars for which it is celebrated. www.aspall.co.uk
