- Updated: November 27, 2019
By Ricky Dimon
Nominees for the 2019 ATP Awards were announced by the tour earlier this week. The Comeback Player of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year, and Sportsmanship Award will all be voted on by the players and will be awarded at the 2020 ATP Cup in January.
Comeback Player of the Year will go to either Andy Murray, Andrey Rublev, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, or Stan Wawrinka.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are the nominees for Most Improved Player of the Year.
A long list of Newcomer of the Year contenders features Auger-Aliassime, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Miomir Kecmanovic, Corentin Moutet, Alexei Popyrin, Casper Ruud, Jannik Sinner, and Mikael Ymer.
“It’s been a solid year!” Auger-Aliassime said via Instagram. Truly blessed and thankful to be nominated among these other great players of our sport. Much love to all of you fans for supporting me throughout the past 11 months.”
Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem, and Diego Schwartzman are in the running for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award.
“Can I win it this year?” Nadal asked on Twitter with winking and prayer emojis.
“I’m pretty excited about my nomination for the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award,” Thiem wrote on Instagram. “It makes be even happier to be nominated next to all these great sportsmen!”
Players will also vote on the Tournament of the Year in three different categories: Masters 1000, 500, and 250. Coaches will vote on the Coach of the Year and fans will vote on the ATPTour.com Fans’ Favorite (both singles and doubles). The ATP will determine the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award.
