Venus Williams will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her maiden US Open championship with a Flushing Meadows return.

The 45-year-old Williams and Reilly Opelka have received a wild card into the US Open Mixed Doubles. The USTA today announced 14 teams confirmed for the US Open Mixed Doubles.

The new format US Open Mixed Doubles will be played during US Open Fan Week on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The winning team will cash a champion’s check of $1 Million—not bad at all for a couple of days of work—and an $800,000 increase over the 2024 US Open Mixed Doubles champions’ check.

To put that figure into perspective, the 2024 US Open singles champions reach earned $3.6 Million and the 2024 US Open singles finalists each collected $1.8 Million. The 2024 US Open doubles champions shared a champions’ check of $750,000.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, who have ended their relationship, were on the original entry list, but are not on the updated US Open mixed doubles list.

Instead, Badosa is partnering Briton Jack Draper.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov, who were also on the original entry list, are not playing. Dimitrov is continuing his recovery from a torn pectoral muscle he suffered while holding a two-set lead over Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon and will not play the US Open.

The 14 confirmed teams announced today include:

  • Eight men and six women ranked in the Top 10 in singles and nine Grand Slam singles champions.
  • The defending US Open Mixed Doubles Champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori and current women’s doubles world No. 1 Taylor Townsend.
  • Fourteen-time Grand Slam women’s doubles champion and two-time Grand Slam mixed doubles champion Venus Williams, who is competing for a spot in the only Grand Slam final – singles, doubles or mixed doubles – she’s yet to reach.
