Second-round action at the ABN AMRO Open wraps up on Thursday, when Alex de Minaur and Stan Wawrinka take the court. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Botic van de Zandschulp are also bidding for a place in the quarterfinals.
Here are my picks for two of Thursday’s best matchups.
(1) Alex de Minaur vs. Stan Wawrinka
De Minaur and Wawrinka will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers on Thursday. Their only previous meeting came on the red clay of Monte-Carlo in 2024, when De Minaur cruised 6-3, 6-0.
Wawrinka is now 40 years old and De Minaur has only improved since their first H2H matchup, but the veteran can’t be entirely dismissed. He has already won five matches at the ATP level in 2026 — more than he did throughout the entirety of last season (four). That includes a 6-3, 6-4 defeat lucky loser Thijs Boogaard on Wednesday. The bad news for Wawrinka is De Minaur remains in stellar form. The world No. 8 is coming off a quarterfinal effort at the Australian Open and he dismissed Arthur Fils 7-6(3), 6-2 in the Rotterdam opening round on Tuesday. It should also be noted that De Minaur finished runner-up in each of his last two trips to this event.
Pick: De Minaur in 2
Botic van de Zandschulp vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas and Van de Zandschulp will be facing each other for the third time in their careers. Both of their previous meetings have gone Tsitsipas’ way on indoor hard courts — 7-5, 6-3 in 2023 (Antwerp) and 7-5, 6-4 in 2024 (Basel).
With home-court advantage in Rotterdam, now could be the time for Van de Zandschulp to turn the tide in his favor. The world No. 65 is 4-3 so far this year and his only losses are to Alexander Bublik, Novak Djokovic, and Ugo Humbert. BVDZ appears to be playing more inspired tennis under new coach Raemon Sluiter, so an upset in front of the home crowd would not come as a major surprise. Tsitsipas looked decent enough during a win over Arthur Rinderknech on Wednesday, but the 32nd-ranked Greek still seems to be well off the form he showed when he was at his best.
Pick: Van de Zandschulp in 3
