Carlos Alcaraz is not the only big-name player who will be absent from the Wimbledon men’s singles draw. In fact, the list is quite long. Lorenzo Musetti, Holger Rune, and Valentin Vacherot are also sidelined.
Holger Rune announced his withdrawal from the Championships this past Thursday because of the torn Achilles’ that he sustained last fall in Stockholm.
Rune posted the following on social media: “Missing Wimbledon is not an easy decision, but the long-term goal remains the same: To come back stronger and be ready to compete at the highest level. I’m getting closer every day and it’s very satisfying to feel the progress. The spirits are high – see you soon.”
Musetti has not played since Rome due to a thigh injury. The 15th-ranked Italian was hoping to be ready for the season’s third Grand Slam, but he announced his withdrawal last Tuesday.
He wrote on social media, “I want to update you on my recovery from the injury I sustained in Rome: rehabilitation is going very well and the medical results are encouraging. Unfortunately, as I have not yet been able to begin a full athletic training program, and after careful evaluation, we have come to the difficult conclusion that I will not be able to participate in Wimbledon this year. It is not an easy decision, but it is the right one. My priority is to return to the court at 100%. Thank you for your continued support — see you soon.”
