Legendary champion Chrissie Evert will be fighting her toughest battle off court.

The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion announced sad news today: Ovarian Cancer has returned and Evert is continuing her battle with the disease.

This past weekend, after undergoing CT and PET scans, I learned that my ovarian cancer has returned,” Evert, 71, posted. “I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.”

The tennis world has showered Evert with love, support, prayers and well wishes.

Evert, a long-time ESPN analyst, will not be part of the network’s coverage as she continues her cancer battle. Evert was initially diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2022. A year later, she was declared cancer free and later served as a support system for good friend and former rival Martina Navratilova in her cancer battle.

“Because of this, I will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health,” Evert said. “Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle. I am deeply grateful to my medical team, my family, friends, and everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement.
I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.”

Evert has not only courageously battled cancer, she’s shared her journey on social media. Now, she’s preparing for another battle.
